Dad's Perspective

NickRocks.us

It's not the hand you are dealt, but how you play your cards.

June 12-17, 2004 "Nick's wish is granted: Disney World..."
On June 12, Nick, Joey, mom and dad along with Grandma and Papa were picked up in a limo and started their trip to fulfill "Nick's Wish". Nick became a "Wish Kid" for 5 days! There are a lot of things that happen to you when you are a wish kid but the most important is knowing that your life's journey has brought you to a place where you are treated with special care. The list of things we are thankful for is endless, and here are some of the highlights: taking the whole family and having spending money for the trip, the limo ride to and from the airport, wearing a special button that meant being escorted to the front of the line at Disney World, getting in for dinner at Emeril's restaurant when there was a 6 week wait, staying at Give Kids the World Village in a great room with all the ice cream you can eat any time you want it and being treated like a King, getting "50 yard line" seats at Medieval Times, playing at the water parks, and finally, getting invited to meet the pilots and visiting the cock pit of the plane that took us home.

There were so many wonderful moments and we met so many caring people everywhere we went. Make-A-Wish made it possible to fulfill Nick's dreams and create memories of a lifetime.

Trainer Thom is a very special person...
On January 13th when I finished chemotherapy I could hardly walk down the stairs because the treatment for cancer made my muscles and bones very weak. I wanted to get my old life back and I wanted to be strong. Trainer Thom (Thom Downing) is a personal trainer at F.I.T. and offered to donate his time to help me get my strength back. Thom is special because he has helped me feel good about myself. I also have a bond with Thom because just after I found out I had cancer, Thom's wife Tracey found out that she had breast cancer. Tracey is only 30 years old, had just finished an Ironman, and like me is a survivor. It is a blessing that Thom and Tracey are part of my life.

Walk-A-Fun a Success!!!
I raised nearly $70,000 and that amount was matched by my Aunt Cathy and Uncle Alex.
A total of $140,000!!

More than 150 people supported me in the Walk-A-Fun. Some kids gave up a month's allowance to pledge for me. Other kids put their money together to support me. A Girl Scout Troop near where I live put money together to pledge for me. I received pledges from Florida, Mississippi, New York, Texas and from many other places in the country. In four hours I was able to walk 6 miles!!!
April 2, 2004 Walk-A-Fun "Announcement"
On April 2, 2004 I will be walking in a Walk-A-Fun to raise money for the National Children's Cancer Foundation and my school (Resurrection School). I hope to be able to walk 15-20 laps which is four or five miles. I have a matching donor so all the sponsorship I get is doubled! If you want to sponsor me, you can open the brochure and pledge form below and fax it in. Thank you!
