It's not the hand you are dealt, but how you play your cards.

"Six months off treatment, clear scans!"

May 28, 2004

I turned 10 years old, Happy Birthday! I went to play lazer tag with a bunch of my friends and family. After that everyone came to my house and my dad set up four TV sets and four X-Boxes so that 16 kids could play HALO.

On May 13th I had a CT and MRI and they both looked good. I also had a bone scan on June 30th that showed no cancer throughout my body. I have been lucky to have my life back to normal in the last six months but the best part is to get my taste buds back and be able to taste the Birthday Cake!

On March 22, I had a bone scan (pictures below). This time I had to get poked to start an IV because I did not have a central line anymore. I had to get an injection of a radioactive dye that would glow if there was any cancer in my bones. On March 24th I had my other two scans, a CT scan of my chest and an MRI of my head. I needed to have an IV again because they also inject me with a dye. All my scans were clear!

When you have a really bad illness there is a place that sometimes can make something you wish for come true. Today, Joy and Kristen visited me at my house. They work with a company that is called Make a Wish Foundation. They were nice and good people. They asked me a lot of questions like about my hobbies and my clothes size and my favorite things to do. I think they wanted to get to know me better. My wish is to go to Disney World and Sea World and maybe stop in New Orleans to visit a really cool restaurant called the Commanders Palace. I guess we will see if I get my wish.

I went into the hospital and the tubes that were in my chest were taken out. It was great to walk around without something taped to my body. it was nice to take a bath and not have to have my bandages changed or worry about getting an infection

Since I started my chemotherapy treatment I watched a lot of cooking shows on the food network. There was a lot of yummy stuff on TV that I used to dream about eating. I really enjoy cooking. It makes my passion for food stronger. When I grow up I want to be a chef and own my own restaurant. I like to watch Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals, Barefoot Contessa, and Wolfgang Puck. My special recipe that my family loves is bacon, cheddar, bubble bread. I am sorry but I cannot reveal the recipe on this public web-site!

February 6, 2004 - First Day Back to School Full Time!

"I couldn't wait to get back to school and start living the life of a normal kid. It is great to see my friends. I play games at recess which I have not done in 10 months and I am beginning to do school work that my classmates are doing. It feels really good to be back at school and I have a lot of energy."

"If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it!" I was admitted for fever and neutropenia on January 18th, 2004. This would be the last time I would be in the hospital in my course of treatment. I left the hospital on January 23!!!

"My dad and brother figured out that my treatment for cancer took 9 months and 1 week. I spent 70 days in the hospital, visited the doctor's office or the clinic 106 times (each visit averaged 3 hours) and I had 28 days of radiation treatment!"

January 13, 2004 - Last Chemotherapy Treatment!

I was scheduled to get my last chemotherapy on January 7th but my platelet counts were too low so I was asked to come back. I checked into the hospital at 8:00 P.M. on January 12 and at 1:15 A.M. on January 13th I received my last infusion of chemotherapy.
